Care Assistant
Job Purpose

To provide care for the clients in a professional and compassionate manner in accordance with our policies and procedures.

Accountability

As a care assistant, you are personally accountable for your practice in caring for clients you:

v Respect the client as an individual
v Obtain consent before you give any care
v Protect confidential information
v Co-operate fully with others in the team
v Maintain your knowledge, skills and competence
v Be trustworthy
v Act to identify and minimise risk! s to clients.

Main Activities

This is a general job description setting out the expertise and duties which are required of a care assistant â€" specific requirements of each client will vary and these will be discussed with you as you are induction
Emotional & Spiritual Needs

Be aware of the importance of the client’s needs, which may be unspoken
Health & Safety

Environment: Do not leave items out which may cause client to sustain an injury.
Fire: Be mindful of all possible fire hazards and reduce risk where necessary â€" maintain escape access at all times â€" Fire training is given 6 monthly this is mandatory.
Security: Ensuring doors/windows are locked as necessary. Ensure visitors sign in & out in visitors book.

Record Keeping
Accurate factual accounts are to made in client’s care plans during or at end of each shift if necessary â€" remembering these could be ask! ed for in a court of law.
v Each entry should be signed and dated.
v The notes are vital for communication between staff â€" to facilitate continuity of care to the client.
v Clients have the right to read the notes.
Communication

The importance of good communication is vital in the client’s care and should be maintained with:
v The clients themselves.
v Their relative or representative
v Management & senior carers to report any changes in the client’s condition
v With other services â€" G.P. District Nurses, Social Services, etc.

Specific Duties

v To assist client’s wash, bath, shave, dress and other types of personal care
v To assist clients at meal times and serving meals, clearing and setting tables.
v To assist clients with shopping and carrying out any hobbies they may have.
v To report any concerns, difficulties or obvious changes in clients to senior carers or management at the earliest opp! ortunity
v To carry out the above tasks diligently and to keep all ! information & knowledge in confidence
v Able to undertake shift work and to work weekends
v Adhere to infection control policy and procedures
v Carry out duties as the management/senior carers may at times reasonably require.

Knowledge & Expertise

General all round experience in care would be an advantage, but not necessary as training will be given.

Competence

Enhanced disclosure with Disclosure Scotland in compliance with Care Standards Act 2000
