The postholder will be substantially involved in the day to day running of a project entitled ‘Brief positive psychotherapy after acquired brain injury: A pilot randomised contro! lled trial’, under the guidance of the project Principal Investigator Professor Jonathan Evans , and co-investigators Dr Breda Cullen, Dr Niall Broomfield, Dr Denyse Kersel and Mrs Heather Murray. The post will be based within the University of Glasgow Institute of Health and Wellbeing. The postholder will be located at the Southern General Hospital, Glasgow, and will require to travel regularly to other locations within Glasgow for participant contact and to attend project meetings. Main Duties and Responsibilities 1.

To carry out the duties required for successful completion of the project entitled ‘Brief positive psychotherapy after acquired brain injury: A pilot randomised controlled trial’, in collaboration with the project’s other Research Assistant as directed by the PI. 2. To administer follow-up study assessments, including psychological and functional questionnaires, in accordance with the study protocol. 3.

To contribu! te to data entry, analysis and writing up of data; contributin! g to the preparation of the final report and papers for publication in scientific journals, in order to disseminate key findings. 4. To contribute to the presentation of study outcomes at appropriate internal/national and international meetings. 5.

To collaborate with other members of the research group, and external collaborators as appropriate, in order to develop the work of the group as a whole. 6. To collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings/discussions and departmental research group activities. 7.

To keep up to date with current developments in the subject field. 8. To maintain databases according to the Data Protection Act and information governance rules, to ensure their continued relevance for current and future research activities. 9.

To adhere to research governance and ethics procedures in the conduct of research. 10. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the ! University’s Strategic Plan, Glasgow 2020 â€" A Global Vision Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience Knowledge/Qualifications Essential: A1 Degree (2.1 or 1 st ) in Psychology, Nursing or other relevant discipline. A2 Theoretical and practical knowledge of research.

A3 Knowledge of principles of psychological assessment. Desirable: B1 Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (e.g. MSc/PhD). B2 Knowledge of psychological consequences of stroke and brain injury.

B3 Knowledge of positive psychology theory. Skills Essential: C1 Evidence of research competence. C2 Numeric skills to record and present data concisely and accurately. C3 Competence in use of relevant data management and statistical analysis software (e.g.

Excel, Access, SPSS). C4 Ability to communicate complex material clearly. C5 Good interpersonal, writing and presenting skills. C6 Ability to use initiative and judgement to plan and progress work.

! Desirable: D1 Evidence of skills in psychological test administ! ration. Experience Essential: E1 At least 1 - 2 years relevant research experience E2 Experience of research (e.g. developing a proposal, data collection, data analysis and writing up). E3 Experience of team working.

E4 Experience of the NHS system or other healthcare setting. Desirable: F1 Previous clinical and/or research work with a neurological population. F2 Experience of presenting results and writing reports and/or publications. Job Features Dimensions Administering psychological and functional questionnaires.

Collecting and recording test data. Analysing data. Writing project reports. Working with a wider research group and liaising with NHS clinicians, admin, IT staff and research team members.

Planning and Organising Plan, in conjunction with the research group, the research tasks required of the project. Utilise organisational skills to manage time and prioritise research tasks. Organise, optimise and implement current project/duties. D! ecision Making and Problem Solving Exercising initiative and independent judgement on all research related issues.

Purchasing of study materials (in conjunction with PI). Make proactive decisions re attending seminars, training events etc. Contribute to decisions on experimental approaches, publication strategies, attendance at meetings. Internal/External Relationships People with stroke or brain injury attending local NHS services Clinicians working within local NHS stroke and brain injury services.

Departmental colleagues to exchange information to uphold efficient working practices. Project team to ensure correctness in data gathering. External academic colleagues to exchange ideas and information to enhance research profile of research group. Problem Solving Responding to queries from participants involved in the study.

Responding to unforeseen/expected problems when working with patients. Other Take a role in developing aspects of future fund! ing proposals resulting from the research programme. Salary will be on ! the University’s Research and Teaching Grade 6, £26,264 - £29,541 per annum. The post has funding for 16 months on a half-time (0.5 wte) basis , 17.5 hours per week.

A Research Passport Application will need to be completed for this post. If you are successful in your application, the offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure Report. The University will make a Disclosure application to Disclosure Scotland which will reveal any past criminal convictions (spent or unspent) or inclusion on the Disqualified From Working with Children List. Any non-conviction information held locally by the police may also be disclosed should this be considered relevant to the position.

New entrants to the University will be required to serve a probationary period of 6 months. The successful applicant will be eligible to join the Universities' Superannuation Scheme.
