The Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology will enhance and develop cardiovascular research at th! e British Heart Foundation/University of Edinburghâs Centre for Cardiovascular Science and NHS Lothianâs Edinburgh Heart Centre. This post is open to applicants with a strong academic background preferably with a post-graduate qualification in research (such as PhD or MD) who hold a Specialty Training number in Cardiology. The post holder will be expected to develop innovative clinical research aligned to the established strengths of the Centre for Cardiovascular Science.
The post holder will be expected to continue with Specialist Training in Cardiology and participate in acute on-call for cardiology services across Lothian. You will have an established track record of cardiovascular research and have evidence of obtaining external peer-reviewed funding. You will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues effectively and be encouraged to develop and lead clinical cardiovascular research. You will help support undergraduate and post-graduate educa! tion and teaching.
Salary will be on the Clinical Lec! turer scale ACN2 (clinical) on £31,523 - £46,708 for 40 hours each week. This appointment is available on a fixed term basis for a period of 5 years. In particular, the post holder will contribute to and develop clinical cardiovascular research within the Centre for Cardiovascular Science. Preference will be given to individuals with an interest that is allied to the major themes and interests of the department under the supervision of Professor Newby, Dr Denvir or Dr Mills. The post is open to applicants with a strong academic background and specialty traini! ng number in cardiology. A post-graduate degree (PhD or MD) is preferred although consideration will be considered for applicants who are currently completing such a degree.
The post holder will be expected to obtain peer-reviewed external grant funding, publish papers in major international peer-reviewed journals and supervise undergraduate and post-graduate students conducting research. The post holder will continue to complete their Specialist Training in Cardiology and will contribute to the middle grade rota of the acute general cardiology on-call. You should have an established track record of research excellence and have secured external peer-reviewed funding. You will be able to collaborate with interdisciplinary colleagues effectively and be encouraged to develop and lead clinical cardiovascular research.

You will undertake research, teaching, clinical and other academic duties. Overall the post will involve a balance of research, teaching, clinical and academic duties.
The individual appointed to this post is expected to: ⢠Be a leader developing their own outstanding academic research record who is able to undertake research, clinical and other academic duties. ⢠Have a major interest in clinical cardiovascular research. ⢠Develop and sustain a personal research programme leading to international excellence. ⢠Develop research programmes with researchers and collaborators in the University of Edinburgh and with other research groups elsewhere as appropriate.
- Disseminate research findings by publication in the most prestigious research journals, presentation at conferences, etc. ⢠Provide leadership within and across research themes with the aim of en! hancing critical mass and collaborations with other departments and universities. ⢠Undertake teaching of undergraduates and postgraduates. ⢠Have a Specialty Training number in Cardiology.

You therefore must be eligible to hold an honorary contract with NHS Lothian, and must also be registered with the General Medical/Dental Council or Nursing & Midwifery Council if appropriate to the role.
It should be noted that the offer of appointment is subject to Occupational Health clearance prior to commencement of duty. Salary The role is grade ACN2 and attracts an annual salary of £31,523 to £46,708 for 40 hours each week. Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month. Salaries for part-time staff are calculated on the full-time scales, pro-rata to the Standard Working Week.
This appointment is available on a fixed term basis for a period of 5 years.
