Job description for the Lec! turer position is available as an attachment at the bottom of this document.*** To make a substantial leadership and management contribution towards meeting departmental objectives in relation to national/international excellence in learning, teaching and student experience and to the strategic development of scholarship/research withing the Nursing and Healthcare School. The appointee (grade dependent upon previous experience) will play a significant role in the delivery of mainly undergraduate, but also postgraduate, teaching and contribute to scholarship and to the internationalisation agenda.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. To lead, design and deliver a range of innovative teaching and assessment activities, strategies and materials, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels to the ultimate achievement of departmental teaching objectives, supporting a research led scholarly approach to student learning.

2. To participate in the ongoing deve! lopment and review of both undergraduate and postgraduate curr! icula and continual enhancement of the student experience

3. To participate fully in the assessment process employing a variety of appropriate methods and techniques to provide effective, timely and appropriate feedback to students to support their learning.

4. To undertake scholarly activities and research, and to publish the outcomes in peer reviewed journals

5. To collaborate and contribute to the internationalisation strategy of the College.
6. To supervise, support and assist student dissertations and projects at UG and PG level and PhD research projects.

7. To engage in clinical practice and professional development as appropriate to maintain a current knowledge to ensure application of research informed teaching and evidence based practice.

8. To be responsible for a range of departmental administrative duties as requested by the Programme Director and the Head of Nursing & Health Care School to ensure smooth running o! f the programme, projects and Department.

9. To be familiar with subject-based pedagogy, lead scholarship initiatives and, where appropriate, secure funding and undertake teaching based research and submit publications to support achievement of excellence in learning and teaching .
10. To contribute fully to quality assurance and enhancement activities, curriculum review and programme re-accreditation with the University and professional bodies to ensure high quality education provision is maintained and to take opportunities for external examining.

11. To undertake a pastoral role for students, e.g. advisor, and refer for additional support / guidance as appropriate to facilitate completion of the programme. 12. To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Glasgow 2020 â€" A Global Vision

13. Coordinate (and contribute to) the d! esign and updating of the learning, teaching and assessment practice re! sources on the Learning and Teaching Centre’s website;

14. Maintain/ develop a national scholarship profile through individual/ joint scholarship projects, securing funding, and act on opportunities for service enhancement through external funding and income generation within the University’s guidelines

Problem Solving
In consultation with the Programme Director & Head of Nursing & Health Care School, explore more cost-effective ways of delivering teaching and enhancing the student learning experience.
Act as first point of contact for problems/enquiries from students in subject area and assigned areas of responsibility.
Respond to enquiries and concerns of mentors and ot! her clinical staff in relation to students.
Solve teaching problems! i.e. delivery of materials to mixed-ability groups etc.
Assist students with issues relative to health and welfare.

Dimensions Design, plan, deliver, co-ordinate and monitor quality of teaching for agreed course(s) as appropriate.
Undertake teaching in accordance with a fair distribution of departmental workload.
Design and apply assessment strategies appropriate to expected learning outcomes.
Submit grant applications/proposals with respect to research informed teaching and developments on an ongoing basis throughout year.
Submit papers for publication as appropriate to teaching and subject specialism within agreed timescales/period.
Collaborate on initiatives with colleagues within the Department and external where appropriate.
Attend and contribute to Nursing & Health Care School committees and represent the Nursing & Health Care School on relevant School of Medicine and NHS Committees.
