Glasgow Caledonian University -Nursing Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) Research Unit

Grade: 7

Salary Scale: £38,522 - £44,607 (Point 38 â€" 43)

The NMAHP Research Unit is a national research unit based at Glasgow Caledonian University and University of Stirling and is core funded from the Scottish Government’s Health Directorate, Chief Scientist Offic! e. NMAHP RU staff members number around 45, including seven Pr! ofessorial staff, who have a variety of diverse backgrounds (nursing, midwifery, allied health professions, sociology, psychology, statistics), and have expertise in delivering ground-breaking research of relevance to NMAHP practice which impacts on the health of the Scottish population and beyond. Current research activity numbers around forty substantial research projects and programmes, split 50:50 between NMAHP RU staff as lead investigators or co-investigators with funding from NIHR, HTA and CSO, amongst others.

The NMAHP Research Unit has 3 objectives:
To conduct high quality applied research that enables Nurses, Midwives and Allied Health Professionals to make a difference to the lives of the people of Scotland and beyond.

To develop a highly supportive multidisciplinary environment that develops research capacity and capability across the professions and provides a foundation for the NMAHP researchers and research leaders of tomorrow.
To create an internationally renowned and innovative Centre of Excellence for Scotland that showcases the very best international NMAHP Research.

These objectives are achieved through 2 main programmes: Interventions, and Quality and Delivery of Care. These two programmes of research enable the Unit to respond to and address a wide range of health care and clinical problems.

We require a Statistician to play a key role in the NMAHP Research Unit in delivering Unit-wide methodological expertise in statistics, data management and data linkage. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of the NMAHP RU Interventions Programme and will be responsible for liaising with NMAHP RU staff with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, in leading and supporting statistical and data linkage activities. The statistical analysis of data will form a substantial component of the day to day activity, with substantial scope for contributions for! study design, collaborative grant writing and peer reviewed paper writ! ing stemming from a diverse portfolio of health services research projects.

You should have excellent communication and presentation skills and have the ability to work with and coordinate a wide range of people from both the University and NHS. Enthusiasm, innovation and leadership are key attributes essential for the post. You should have a higher degree in a relevant subject area, and previous experience in statistical analysis stemming from a portfolio of work is essential.
